Smile Moving to One of The Carolinas from New England...

Hello out there. My two kids and I will most likely be moving to either the Charlotte or Wilmington area of North Carolina OR somewhere in South Carolina. I need any info. you might have on the best elementary and middle schools in these areas. I also would love to have info. on the best apartments to rent in these areas. Basically, I'm looking for small, safe communities that are kid/family-oriented and have good schools. Thanks!

HI! We live about 1-1/4 hour drive from Wilmington and 3-1/2 hours from Charlotte so we can't offer direct details for each city, but the following links should give you a good place to start your search. There are many posters in here who will be happy to help you out when they read your new post. As former New Englanders ourselves let us welcome you to North Carolina, regardless of where you move, as this is heaven down here
You can also post in Coastal NC and Charlotte NC which are sub forums for the NC forum.

Try these links:

Hi and Welcome. If you are considering Wilmington, the Wilmington Star is your best bet. There are also tons of rental assistance websites, For rent by Owner, Tenant Marketer, com, Craigs List is awesome. Sorry I have no info. on schools, all my kids have finally been launched. Good luck.

For NC school report cards:

NC School Report Cards

For South Carolina:

School Report Cards - South Carolina Department of Education

For each you need to select by County, and then you will get a list of the schools.

Just a thought, but if you're looking to buy in the future, SC may be the best bet for the tax diffrence alone.

Job opportunities are challenging, but we are a great area of small communities with very good schools.

It is also a very safe area and family oriented area with lots to do out of doors, but very little night life.

This site has lots of pictures.

For more information and links to area information, check my main Southern Outer Banks site.

We also have plenty of long term rentals, mostly homes.

If you have a specific question, don't hesitate to call or send me an email.
