North Carolina has great beaches and I know lots of folks come from out of state to visit them. I'm just curious which North Carolina beaches residents of the Old North State go to.

I'm making a poll. I've broken it down into Northern Outer Banks (Nags Head and north), Hatteras Island and Ocracoke, the Crystal Coast area (Emerald Isle, etc), the Topsail Area, the Wilmington Area, and the Brunswick County beaches. Feel free to check more than one.

If you're not living in NC yet, feel free to comment, but it would be great if you'd refrain from voting. I'm curious which beaches people who live in NC travel to.

i live in wilmington, but i typically travel to Georgetown County, SC if i'm going to stay at the beach. going to the beach here is a tremendous pain in the ass. figure eight is private, wrightsville beach wishes it was private, and pleasure island has grimy river water.

I can't speak for others, but for me (a Charlotte resident); I tend to hit up coastal SC far more than coastal NC. Myrtle and Charleston are closer to us and more interesting IMO.

I'm not a Myrtle person myself, but I know a lot of people go to SC beaches, too. I think especially folks from Charlotte and the Asheville areas hit the SC shores. Charleston is a straight shot down I-26 from Asheville, but to get to Wilmington you've got to go a bunch of different smaller roads.

I'm thinking that the OBX might have more visitors from out of state than it does from in-state because it's so far away from NC population centers.

Every year we go to North Myrtle but if we want a closer getaway weekend, then we just go to Wrightsville.

I don't know if it's still this way or if it's changed, but long years ago when I was growing up in the southeastern portion of NC, going to the beach was like going to church. Kids asked each other, "Which beach do you go to?" like they'd ask "What church do you go to?" People got very attached to a certain beach and went over and over each year. I knew folks who went to Sunset and folks who went to Long Beach (now Oak Island) or folks who went to Holden, but you almost always went to the same beach every year. I have a goal on my bucket list of going to every beach in NC. I've been to a lot, but not all of them.

I'm not in NC any more, but when I lived there, my beach of choice was definitely the south end of Topsail! Such a laid back beach, not too crowded at the south end, and always felt so family friendly to me.

Yes, I think you should have included SC beaches as an option, as many NC'ers go there instead of the NC beaches. We usually go to Garden City, SC, primarily because my family owns a place there. I have been to all the beaches listed in your poll, but I can't say any of them are "regulars" for me. My favorites among your list, though, are the Brunswick Beaches.

I moved back her 3 years ago after 25 years away so I'm hoping to visit them all and then pick a favorite. I'm holding off on the Outer Banks until I have a good solid 4 day weekend or week to spend there.

I definitely included Myrtle Beach on my list of places to visit!

I will take day trips to Wrightsville Beach, so I selected that from the options provided, but for anything longer I tend to head to the SC beaches.
