Question Possibly moving to Fayetteville - school questions

Hello,

Next week, we'll know if my husband is getting a job working at the airport. We might be moving to Fayetteville in a couple months. We have a 1st grader and I need recommendations for schools (in order to choose where to look for a house). I've checked greatschools.net but find the 96 listed schools a daunting prospect. I'd like to narrow down my search.

I currently teach high school French but don't expect to find a position there. I will try and work from home, doing translations, private lessons, etc. Any hints on who might need these kinds of services?

Thanks.

Hi, We moved to Fayetteville over the summer of 2006 (left summer of 07 due to a job change). I did TONS of research on schools and found that staying IN cumberland county was our best bet. The top rated High School in cumberland and the surrounding counties is in Fayetteville, Jack Britt HS. The best elementary (save for one or two at the time that were tiny and fed into not-so-good middle and High schools) was Stoney Point Elementary, which feeds into Jack Britt. The are we lived in was very nice, newer subdivision, with other newer subs going up around it and nearby. I'll send a link via direct message so as to not get the moderators upset (I don't work for a realtor, just liked a particular website that let me search by SCHOOLS) that's easy to use.
The area is on the edge of the county, near Hoke County (Raeford on the map). You'll hear tons of bad stuff on here about Fayetteville, I'm glad I didn't find these boards before my move there. Much of what is said here can be true in certain parts of Fayetteville, but I found none of it to be true or pertain to me, and the places I traveled there.
Good luck.

Hi, I don't know if you're still looking or not, but we're currently living in the Southview school area, and I love it. Granted, my kids are only in elementary school right now, and I don't know much about the middle and high school, but it is one of the preferred school areas in Fayetteville. And bonus, it takes me MAYBE 5 minutes to get to the Fayetteville Airport, as we're just about right on Bus. 95. If you haven't already found a place, take a look!

The Cape Fear district is a good district....Beaver Dam, District 7, and Eastover Elementary being the top elementary schools. Not too far from the airport. From Beaver Dam, you'd take I-95 to the next exit past Exit 49 (47 maybe?). Maybe 20 minutes, tops. Maybe 15 or so from Eastover area.

Being "east of the river" (the Cape Fear River--and not being "in town"), you'll find slower country living, with "country-kids" with good old-fashioned southern values.

Out here in Beaver Dam, crime is almost non-existant. Once in a blue moon, you'll hear of someone discovering something has been stolen, but it's rare. We have one of the top elementary schools in the county--with only 135-140 kids in Pre-K through 5th grade! My daughter, who's going into the 3rd grade knows EVERY student in the school! Nothing beats that small school atmosphere, where the principal, and every teacher knows every single child!

EXPENSIVE!!!!!

Really, Village Christian and Fayetteville Academy are probably considered the top 2 in town. And it seems like more and more churches are starting their own academies.
