There are rude people everywhere, but I'll agree that NC seems to have a lot of rude people.
I was born and raised in NC and got tired with rude Southerners (including my family) and rude Yankees. A lot of Southerners aren't rude verbally, but rude in their actions. At the Post Office in Rocky Mount, a woman was holding up the 5 people line by having a personal conversation with the clerk. I can't see someone from up North behaving this way. However, some Northerners tend to be aggressive.
If you want genuinely nice people who don't care about where you live, where you're from, and what you drive, come to the Midwest.

It's called "being friendly." Sorry Northeners are in such a hurry, they don't have time to have a brief conversation with others.
I think its rude for someone to stop traffic behind them to let someone out in front of them (happens in school traffic all the time). Of course that person thinks they are being nice....just not nice to the people behind them. I say follow the rules of the road and that person can get out when they get the opportunity.
The Post Office example is a good one as well. I know plenty of folks that hold up other people that are waiting because they want to talk and be friendly. I think that is rude because its putting their conversation and time ahead of others. And for those that think its not rude, consider that if everyone has that extra minute conversation, then it can delay the last person by 5-10 more minutes.
Its great to be nice to people, but there are times and places for interaction. You have to be aware of your surroundings when being nice and be sure your not holding up someone else's productivity.
I have found North Carolinians to be the least rude I met.
Maybe it is you or your demeanor or possibly a bit of a condescending attitude. I dunno
