No state income tax but high property taxes. Of course that's only a concern if you're buying.

Hundreds of North Carolina teachers attended a Raleigh recruiting event organized by the Houston Independent School District, the largest school district in Texas.
Advertisements for the job fair claimed first-year teachers could earn as much as $16,000 more than those in N.C., which ranks 47th in the nation in teacher pay.

LOL. This whole thing is a colossal train-wreck in slow motion. And by the time everything has gone wrong, it'll be too late to fix it. Been nice knowing you, North Carolina.

Yeah lets trade it for the 3rd worst property tax in the country. Oh wait maybe you are one of those conservative people that believe having no taxes = more revenue for the states. You know that same kind of revenue theory the GOP legislature employed which lead to a $400 million dollar shortfall.

I am sure that there is a state out there that wants you.

As to good teachers leaving the state in droves - absolutely horrible for NC. We would then be left with substandard teachers. How then will our redneck buck toothed children ever learn?

Actually, every teaching conference or hiring event I've been to has schools from out of state looking for teachers.

I went to one in St Louis and there were school districts from Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, and Texas there. They were interviewing on the spot.
