We are a couple in their 50's that love to sail. We would like to be near water but not on the coast. Any suggestions?

The Charlotte area has the Catawba River and three lakes -

Lake Norman, Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake

However, all public boat launches are closed due low water levels caused by the drought.

Lake Norman is largest lake in the state and has a huge sailboat marina club.
Badin Lake and Tillery are cute quaint lakes as well and have decent goo ol southern NC communities that surround them and beautiful Uwharrie Mountain views and the Uwharrie Forest has plenty of activities to keep you occupied.
I would avoid Sailing on High Rock due to you need experience on this lake to naviagate it well. It also very murky and unless you are able to obtain property on main channel you are looking at nothing but mud in the winter.
Mountain Island lake is decent lake as well I like hanging out on this lake due to I can kayak and there for now is less boat traffic and enjoy the wildlife on the shore and air. It also within minutes of Lake Norman.
