Me and my wife are wanting to move to North Carolina from Pennsylvania. We are both 26 and want to move out of pa get get away from some of the cold weather. Weare looking at 4 areas. We would like to be between 30 and 45 minustes from these areas. Charlotte, Raleigh, near the coast by the ocean and lake norman area. Want to get some input for people from those areas to help us decide. We love to be out doing stuff. So we would like to livenbear a place that has a lot if stuff to do. We are both nurses so finding a job shouldn't be too hard. We also would like to have kids in the next couple if years so we would need to look at schools as well. Thanks for all the help guys.
Any of the areas you mentioned are nice, and offer plenty of things to do. As far as coastal areas, I think either Wilmington or the Jacksonville/Morehead City area would offer the most job opportunities, but really there are hospitals and medical clinics in just about any decent-sized town. What specific questions do you have?
Because of larger populations in the Charlotte or Raleigh areas, there will be more medical jobs. Thus I suggest concentration your efforts in either Charlotte or Raleigh. You will have more clubs, restaurants and nightlife in these area, plus you are a few hours from the mountains for outdoor recreation.
The coastal areas have much smaller year-round populations. We have fishing, sailing and surfing as recreation, and are good if you like smaller town living. It would help if you have Nurse Practitioner certification, as many clinics use them to supplement doctors.
Well, obviously you have a choice between urban, beach, or mountain environments. None of us can tell you which of those YOU would prefer of the 3--you can find a hefty % of the population for each. Have you been to any of the places you're considering (if not, how can you be considering them?)? If no, the first thing you need to do is see them for yourself and see whether you can imagine living there and how the job market (even for nurses) is.
What has made you consider North Carolina, vs other states? There's a pretty big difference among the areas you mention, and other than all having "NC" at the end of their address, they aren't really apples-to-apples. Sometimes it's best to find a city/town somewhere that you know and like and see what other city/town is most like that one. You can't do that with entire states.
Unless someone here has ESP, they can't really tell you where YOU would like being the most.

Nurse Practitioners don't "supplement" doctors. Nursing positions in general are fairly tight right now.
