That list looks pretty bunky to me. Take a district like chapel hill. Great schools. Community cares enough to spend money and they get results. Great results. John Locke gives them a "3" though, since they have the audacity to spend 10k per student...
They value Iredell's 79 higher than chapel hill's 90... But which district would you rather have YOUR child in?
If I ever got into the General Assembly, I would bring legislation to merge those 14 city schools into their county school systems. No reason at ALL to have those redundancies.
I also would allow for the option of merging of certain adjacent county school systems. Especially those in the east.

What's your rationale for proposing that? Most people on these board lament the large size of systems like Wake Co. There has been talk of merging CHCCS and OCS for years but it's never come to fruition. CHCCS and OCS are both well funded and high performing.
Nothing but the "best value" for your children, huh? Whatever floats your boat, but that's not a decision that most parents would share with you. 'Cept maybe the tea party types, but goodness knows they're not exactly beacons of wisdom and enlightenment, lol.
And while we're at it, ask those union county "beefers" if they're happy with their super efficient results...
Thinking people would never, ever rely on a published list of "best" anythings, much less school districts.
There are districts with great schools and poor schools, there are great teachers in poor schools and vice versa.
Get off you but, learn about what is supposed to be taught, and then go talk to the teachers. Find out yourself and make your own judgement. It is the only way!
I don't think efficient administration is the key difference here. Draw your own conclusions.

I'm in Halifax County!!!! Bottom of the list. I live in Scotland Neck and the worst schools in Halifax County are located here. So Scotland Neck is last in Halifax County, Halifax being ranked 50th is the last in the state. NC being 36th out 50 is near the bottom of the barrel in the USA and with the nation being 36th in the world, I think I'm safe when I say that I live among some of the dumbest people on this planet, and a walk down any street here proves it everyday.
