That (furthest inland port in NC) was in response to the person who stated that there is nothing unique about Fayetteville, which for all its faults, is not true

What sort of "inland port" does Fayetteville have?

In earlier times it was used to transport naval stores (due to all the pine trees in the area)

Now it's used for small boats and recreation and such, but I think some of the Cape Fear locks/dams are currently closed for maintenance

Earlier times? We're talking about 2018, not 1770.

I thought Fayetteville might have had a current inland port, such as the one that recently opened just down the road in Dillon, SC (and the one that opened a couple of years ago in Greer, SC, near Greenville and Spartanburg). But it looks like it was more of a historic thing:

Fayetteville's original settlers were from the highlands of Scotland and arrived in 1739 via the Cape Fear River. The area grew as a center of government and commerce because of its location as an inland port and the hub of the early "Plank Roads" system, key to overland travel from the 1840s to 1850s.

Yeah, the port in Fayetteville was more of thing when canals and rivers were the primary modes of freight transport.

You can't take a 98 foot yacht from Falls of Neuse in Raleigh (or from Charlotte) straight (over water) to the Atlantic Ocean, but you could in Fayetteville: Breece brothers showcase family boat that became a Fayetteville icon - News - The Fayetteville Observer - Fayetteville, NC

The access to the Cape Fear river makes Fayetteville unique among other large cities in NC.

There is no "inland port". And Fayetteville is certainly unique, lol.

I'm very happy! Although F'ville's lack of an inland port has nothing to do with it. And F'vlle is very unique, just not in a good way, lol.

Sure it does.

That is one definition of an inland port. Does Fayetteville not meet this definition? Doesn't say it has to be acting as a port, just that it can.
