My kids went to the St.Stephens Schools in the N.E. section. My son is now a senior at App State in computer science and plans to get his masters. My daughter is a designer in Greensboro. Both were honor students and had a wonderful learning experience because of these schools in the county. Also, Mountain View is a county school, and it is a great area. Both areas have a lot to offer for young families with children. Lovely neighborhoods in both areas and different price ranges in homes. I personally did not want my kids in the Hickory City School system since that is where I went.
