Actually this program is being produced by a Boston TV station. PBS licensed it for broadcast.

Your link is broken, but these groups are nothing like what went on 50+ years ago.

While the KKK may have faded over the years, a multitude of other racist/extremist/separatist groups have emerged to more than make up for them in number. Neo-Nazis, Skinheads, Black Separatists, Radical Catholicism, and on and on. If you have someone or something you hate, there's a group for you out there somewhere.

Don't under estimate the number of people involved in racist groups in NC such as the KKK. Clearly the organization is not what it was between the 1920s and 1960s. There are certain towns and counties I have heard that either have a small KKK base or is somewhat racist. Denton and Rocky Mounty are a few. Also Davidson and Randolph Counties.

No doubt. But this seems to have little to do with the topic at hand
.

I've been around the Research Triangle my whole life (I'm in college, so yes I'm pretty young) but I've never seen or heard any mention of KKK activity in this area. Outside Raleigh into the countryside/small towns? Yes. I've seen KKK graffiti written inside fast food/gas station bathrooms in remote areas of Eastern NC. I've also heard reports of Klan activity in Piedmont towns like Hillsborough, Reidsville, Denton, etc.

In NC, we don't have a good history regarding the Klan but which southern state does? In 1979, the Greensboro Massacre made international news and put Greensboro on the map for the wrong reasons. Even today, while Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte are booming, Greensboro seems to be flying under the radar. One possible reason might be the Greensboro Massacre that probably hurt the image of Greensboro. Also, it's true that NC had more KKK activity than the rest of the South combined during the Civil Rights Movement. However, this was actually due to the fact that we were so much more progressive like the article pointed out. Alabama had George Wallace, North Carolina had Terry Sanford.

Then you didn't read the OP. It's about a PBS Documentary on NC's history.
