Unhappy Help Getting Car From SC to NC!!

Hello,

I am looking to purchase a vehicle from a private party in South Carolina, and I am still very confused on what to do/where to go/how and when to do it by etc.

I have looked on this site and read what I have to do, but I am still oblivious as of what to do about it all..

NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles: How do I title & register a vehicle?

To register a vehicle purchased from an individual:

1. Furnish the title properly assigned, and notarized to you. If any liens are shown on the front of the vehicle's title, you will need a lien release.

2. Complete the Title Application declaring all liens, signed in the presence of a notary.

3. If the vehicle is less than 10 years old, you must supply an odometer disclosure statement signed by both the seller and the buyer.

4. A Damage Disclosure Statement is required.

5.The title will be issued and mailed to the owner or if a lien is declared, to the lienholder.

6. If the vehicle is coming from out-of-state, the owner has 10 days to have vehicle inspected in North Carolina.

For #1 above, is this the previous title to the car that the seller has right now, or the title that I will have to complete the Title Application for ??

For #2 I am getting a loan for the car, for the liens, I will have to declare the bank I got the loan from?

For #3 The car is a 2000 and I understand I will have to get the odometer statement, but heres the catch, the car itself has about 17,000 miles on it, but the engine has 64,000, what will I have to give the odometer reading on? The car, or the engine? I'm guessing the car... but just want to make sure..

For #4 I understand I will have to get this completed for my own records.

For #5 A lien will be declared to the bank I got the loan from correct? Now is the title I am getting from the seller, or the title I am completing for the Title Application going to be sent to the lienholder?

For #6 The car is in SC, so I know I'll have to get it inspected here in NC.. What all do they look for in the safety inspection test? Also does anyone know if Onslow County is an emissions testing county? I looked on the DMV website but that page with the counties listed has an error 404 or something.

Thankyou so much to anyone helping me out with this.. I appreciate it greatly..

Call your local "NC License Tag Agency" which in NC are private contractors and I suspect they can answer all your questions. I have found the office in Asheville to be helpful when dealing with some transfers.
