I know this is just a matter of opinion, but what is it you don't like about Gastonia?

Goldsboro
According to the recent posts, no one thinks very highly of Goldsboro!? Why is this? I would like to hear everyone's likes and dislikes about this area. Is it worth moving there from Georgia for a very high paying engineering job? Peace and quite is good enough for me, and I like small towns-rural areas. I would think anywhere in NC would be a piece of heaven.

I haven't been to Goldsboro since 1997, so they could've made some improvements since then. When I was last there, it seemed dirty and unattractive to me. Just my opinion, of course.
I think life in the country there could be nice though. My husband and I lived in the country (La Grange) for a couple months before we moved into town (also La Grange). It was pretty country, I thought. Flat, but I liked the patchwork of the farm land, the trees and the orange lilies (tiger lilies?) that grew wild there. And also the orchards I passed on highway 70 on my way to Kinston.

Thanks Nikki. Are you talking about La Grange, NC?? I live in Columbus, Ga, and we have a La Grange just 45 minutes north of us. I suspected that Goldsboro might be an "up and coming" farm town. Your description sounds alot like central Georgia-guess I would be right at home. And I bet those tiger lilies may be wild Pine Lilies. When you find them in the wild, the first impression is to call them tiger lilies, but the flowers are a bit smaller in size.
I hope to visit Goldsboro in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

Yes, La Grange, NC. It's between Kinston and Goldsboro. La Grange is a very small town, most of it is country. Kinston and Goldsboro are small cities - bigger than La Grange, but not as big as the bigger cities in NC.

Hey Ron - I'm coming your way tomorrow! My son is graduating from OCS at Ft Benning on Thursday. We're taking a very early morning flight out of Portland - you always lose so much time flying east! I also saw La Grange GA on the map when I was printing out directions from the airport in Atlanta to Columbus. And I will be working near La Grange, NC, in a couple months. Several of my new coworkers live in Goldsboro and seem to like it OK. I'm still wanting to be somewhat closer to Raleigh, in hopes of getting better appreciation on my house.

The Move
hi, i would have to say ASHEVILLE would be my #1 choice to live in n.c. whatever you need they have it. people r friendly, caring, and seem to be very helpful. i live in marion, nc just 30 minutes from asheville,nc and i hate it here. if you want a nice place to dine or dance you have to go to asheville or hickory. people here have their own little click. this place is well known for the meth problem. my oldest son when he graduated moved to Ga. owns his own real estate business and is doing well. if you have ever entered into mcdowell county from each direction entering the county what is the first thing u see a bunch of trashy traliers that need to be condenmed!! or a bunch of vacant land that has broken down equipment on it an trash piled up. so good luck with your move but i would drive on thru mcdowell county! oh by the way we r moving to ga. come the summer lovelyladieinred2001@yahoo.com
