I know this sounds odd, but what would you say? For example, I grew up around many people in Raleigh who never seemed to visit areas along the lines of Winston-Salem because they didn't have a need. They usually went east if they left Raleigh, either family took them there or vacations along the coast. On the contrary, I'll run into folks from the Triad who never seem to visit Raleigh, they're not familiar with the Research Triangle at all because they rarely visit. So, what would y'all say regarding interaction between different pockets of the state? Do you ever find yourself in areas you never seem to visit? For example, I still haven't visited the Elizabeth City area, although I've traveled throughout North Carolina many times. Same story with the areas deep in the mountains like Murphy, still haven't visited.
I've been to pretty much every corner of NC...there are plenty of good reasons to visit different cities and towns, but many times it's been because I had a friend living there. Most people aren't going to take a vacation to Raleigh or Greensboro (for example) but there is actually a lot to see and do in any major NC city. I've done weekend trips to all of the larger cities and longer trips to the coastal/mountain cities and towns.
1.) The areas west of Gastonia on that side of Asheville (Shelby, Forest City, Rutherfordton, Hendersonville, etc.). I've been through that region, but it's been a long time ago.
2.) Far Northeastern NC: Roanoke Rapids, Ahoskie, Elizabeth City, etc.
I would guess that this area away from tourism spots around the Outer Banks is one of the least visited areas of NC (not counting I-95 traffic passing through).
Ashamed to admit this......but I've never been to the Outer Banks. Our beach destination has always been from the Topsail to Carolina Beach/ Kure Beach stretch and no points north.
I've been to all of the major cities and extensively throughout the mountain region from Sparta/Alleghany county, though Asheville, Mars Hill, Hot Springs, Boone, etc.
2. I don't think I ever been to Morehead City or Beaufort (and if it did I was 15+ years ago)
3. Never been to the Sandhills region (Southern Pines, Pinehurst etc.)
4. Never been in South Piedmont area (Laniubrug, Rockgiham etc.)
5. I've only been to the mountains once my entire life, like I been to the mountains of Central New York more times than I been to the Mountains
and this one hurts
6. I've only been to Charlotte 3 times, and 2 of those times it was only because I been at the airport. I really seen Charlotte only once in my entire life and that was because my college (North Carolina A&T) played North Carolina Central at the American Legion Memorial Stadium.
- Only been to the Outer Banks once almost 20 years ago. I guess since it's so far out compared to the other NC and SC beaches that I don't really bother.
- Have driven through the Triad multiple times for commuting reasons but very rarely, if ever, had reason to stop in Greensboro or Winston-Salem.
Most of the rest of the state I've spent a decent amount of time in.
I live in Western NC, therefore it's rare that I go east of I-77. Only been to the Outer Banks once, and to Raleigh on maybe 3 or 4 occasions in my life (went to Durham last August to buy a car!)
