Hi Guys,
One of my friends, moved to Winston-Salem and has been bugging me to visit her. Also a customer in Greensboro told me to "come on down". So as soon as I can (have an ill family member) will head down for a look see.
Think I've been to Kannapolis a while ago. Was this an old mill town that has an outlet mall? Remember someplace selling linens/towels?
I appreciate everyone's help. At least now, have some direction and feel better about being accepted once I move.
As I mentioned to an e-mail buddy who moved from Long Island to Alabama; I think the hardest thing about moving is leaving old friends behind and making new ones. However, it's a good thing, as we get in a rut and this "wakes us up" to new adventures.
Y'all have a great weekend. See I'm picking up the lingo already. LOL

This is me. I'm not sarcastic. I like a place where I can be me, wear my jeans, walk my friendly little dog and have a few minutes chat with a stranger. A small-town environment, shop keepers, perhaps a place to sell my own wares. A little house with a porch, and a garage. Approximate to a VA hospital, since I am a vet. Definitely not a corporate person.

Nice towns in NC
Hey Jersey Girl,
I too relocated from Jersey 12 years ago to NC. When I first moved here I lived in Cary. It is a really nice town and plenty of things to do. It's a quick commute to Raleigh and other towns. Jobs should be plentiful in the capital area. Cary has grown alot in the last twelve years. I currently live in Elon in the country. It's a nice area but not as much to do as in Cary. You can look on-line at the lcoal newspaper for that area at newsandobserver.com this will give you an idea of living costs and events. The best thing for me was to come down for a week at a time especially during the summer. It takes awhile to adjust to he heat/humidity factor after coming from the North. All in all it is a pretty nice state and the locals have always been friendly and helpful.

I disagree, I have a dry sense of humor, and also have friends (also natives of NC) who have extremely dry sense of humor. I suspect education level and/or life experience have more to do with it than where you are from.
Now "artsy" don't sit too well with locals, cause most of those the choose to label themselves as "artsy" are labeled by locals as "freaks" and "weirdo's"

hey there, I suspect what the Uncle said may be applicable to you as well. UNC-G has a very good art department, there are galleries and shows almost weekly in different parts of town. It really doesn't matter which medium you entertain, Greensboro will afford you an outlet. Theatre, Music, Dance, poetry, prose, sculpture, oils, sketches, I would suggest you move into the UNC-G area, read the Rhino Times. The natives are easy to talk to, very few people are considered wierd on Tate Street.
