I have 1 full day to show sister in law something scenic in North Carolina. Coming to visit from Minnesota to our house in Northern Charlotte suburb. Flies in Sunday, flies out Tuesday. We are thinking of Chimney Rock. Any ideas?

Your asking everybody here and your the one who live's there? But I'll bite so you get a visitors perspective. I love two parts of NC a lot. The coast and OBX which is too far from Charlotte for a day trip and the Blue Ridge Parkway which would be closer to you. Beautiful views and I think the highest peaks in at least the southern Appalachians.

Wouldn't it depend on what interests them? Mountains, beaches, museums, shopping, etc.

Biltmore

Blue Ridge Parkway

Not a lake —*they have plenty of those in Minnesota and way bigger ones than we have, too.

Maybe the ocean, but that's a hard day trip from Charlotte. They don't have much in the way of mountains in Minnesota so I think that would be a good direction to head and then tailor the trip to your SIL's taste. Take her to Biltmore if that's her thing or on a big hike if that's more her style. They do have some good waterfalls in MN so maybe more of the overlooks on the BRP would be more novel for her, but we don't know what sorts of places she's already been.

Default Where to go in NC

Thanks everyone, Blue Ridge Parkway it is. I was just curious if anyone had any better ideas. Have lived here for 7 years and we always enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Have a cocktail on the Sunset Porch at the Grove Park Inn. They have the same rocking chairs there as when they opened in 1914. I have a picture of my grandfather and grandmother on the Sunset porch in the rocking chairs taken 8.21.1914.
