Favorite/Least Favorite School Systems
I have been really excited about relocating to NC but the excitement is starting to fade with what I am hearing about the schools about overcrowding, reassigning schools, and now just read about having to camp outside overnight to get into a preschool. Favorite and least favorite schools? Thanks.

glisco, are you looking for information regarding the whole state of NC or just the Raleigh and surrounding areas?
What you are referencing to with schools in your post is in the Triangle area and not necessarily occurring thru out the whole state.

Glisco, I'm not sure where you are moving from your post. I looked at the reference above and didn't see any schools from Carteret County on the list, but I do know that their school system ranks in the top 10% in the state ~ well from what I've read. I'm not sure what bench marks they use for their rating. Good Luck with your move. You will like it in the North Carolina area. It's really a beautiful state. And I don't live there full time yet but we have a home in the Beaufort area.

Yes, Raleigh and surrounding areas. Possibly Charlotte and Greensboro and their surrounding areas. Are these areas the Triangle Area?

Yes, I should have included what areas I am interested in: Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro and their surrounding areas. Sorry, duh.

No Charlotte is it's own and so is Greensboro.
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel hill etc. would be lumped together.
Ok, so we now have a better idea of the areas you have an interest in .

Nursery schools can be tough... supply has not kept up with demand. You have to apply around now for September or you will be wait listed or worse... not get a place. That being said, I have put 3 kids through preschool and have had great experiences with all of the ones we were in, and have noticed that schools can get hyped up by parents, as if the preschool will determine the kid's destiny... yes the more established ones may have better programs, but sometimes a new one can, too... so you have to roll with it.
With the elementary schools and above? Hmmm... you really can't generalize. I am really happy with my kids 'elementary & middle schools but I am dreading our leap to Knightdale high school next year. So, that is a mixed bag for us.
OK back to nursery schools... at least now with the net you can go to the websites to narrow the field, & then visit & apply. We did that when we moved 2 years ago. We applied in February (late!) We were wait listed in 3 schools, got in to one in April, and then in October got a call from another that they had a space! But, we were happy with where we were & kept our daughter there.
