Default Friend in Goldsboro

Hi! Goldsboro is differen't - I don't care where you are from. Take it from me, stick with the Rosewood schools and you will be in one of the better areas. Good thing is, you will only be an hour from Raleigh. My family was relocated here earlier this year and now we are being relocated again. We have just put our house on the market. One thing that I can tell you is that there are some good people in the Rosewood area. They welcomed us in as if we had been here our entire lives. Stay away from Goldsboro city schools . You may pay a little more for the Rosewood school area, but it is worth it. RYSA is a great program in that area too for youth sports. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Happy to help as I am in the same boat inquiring about my new area.

Oyster07 is right on the money with the Barbeque around here, I definately suggest going to Wilbur's Barbeque which is towards Kinston.

I live in Goldsboro and it really is a nice community. It is a small town of about 40K people. The restaurants are mainly chain restaurants. The park is really nice downtown, it has a train for the little kids to ride on. In the summers, there is a concert every other Thursday downtown. There are many events in the area for kids, a great family community. If you want to check out the schools in the area, go to ncschoolreportcards.org and go to Wayne County schools, it will give you all information about the schools in the area. Rosewood and Northwest Elementary are a couple of the top schools. There is also a private school here, St Mary's Catholic School which is really good. Good luck on your move, it does take some getting used to it when you get here but after a while, it will grow on you and you will love it.

As for high schools, I would advise staying away from Goldsboro High.
The top two high schools are probably Eastern Wayne and Rosewood, which are on opposite sides of the Goldsboro area.
Eastern Wayne is just outside of the inner city limits and is the biggest school, I believe. EW is on the East side, Rosewood on the West.

Goldsboro itself is a small city area that includes the inner city and some of the surrounding suburban area. It's ranked as a metro, but not very big
There is not much to do here in my opinion, but development has been picking up pace, but that pace is still not very fast.

Traffic is not bad, 5pm on Berkley Blvd and Wayne Memorial can be a bit annoying, but not particulary bad. Hwy 70 sees a lot of weekend beach traffic during the summer.

Restaurants: Wilbur's BBQ, McCalls....that new Hibachi place that opened up is good.
There's a few other good places.

Whenever you go to Raleigh (which you will at some point), I'd suggest taking 117 N Bypass (I-795 ...when are they going to change the name?) and then take 264 W. It avoids the stoplights and the slow-speed areas of 70.
To greenville: Take Hwy 13. If you live on the far east side like me, you can take a little shortcut on Beston Rd. to get to 13.
