Default Good family area in Moore County

Hello,

We may be moving to Moore County this spring for work, so I have the following questions:

* What are good neighborhoods for families with an eight-year old?
* How are the schools? Any info on Pope John Paul II Catholic School in Southern Pines?
* Silly question! What are the swimming options like? Public pools available or is the beach the closest option? We're big swimmers and would like to keep that up!

Thanks so much in advance!

Southern Pines,Pinehurst, Aberdeen, and Taylortown all have public swimming pools. First Health has an olympic sized pool in their Rehab Center that you can join.
Catholic School in Pinehurst in addition to the one in SP. Beaches are 2and1/2 hours away. Great for weekend getaways.
Most neighborhoods are "kid friendly". Yes, even Pinehurst. What price range are you looking at? I'm not in real estate. But, the 7 lakes, Whispering Pines, etc. (country clubs) all have pools. Most CC's do.
Depending on how much you're willing to spend, the amenities are available. 7 lakes has stables, pool, tennis, golf, swimming (lakes and Pool), golf, etc.
You really need to come down and take a look around. And not just looking around with a real estate agent. Pick a neighborhood and go at 7Am, 10AM, 3PM, 5PM, 8PM, 10PM. Too noisy? Too quiet? Too much traffic?
If I can help, please let me know.

I am also considering Moore's County. I am moving from Maryland and have to live in close proximity to Fayetteville and I dont want to live in Fayetteville.

I have a young daughter that I would like to send to Catholic School. What is the name of the school in Moore's County?

What I have been able to determine is that Moore's county is a golf mecca. Does this also mean that there are a lot of retired people living in Moores. I too am looking for a family atmosphere for my daughter who is 4.

Also, what a bout jobs, are there jobs available in the area?

Thanks for any additional info that you can offer.

Although most of your questions have already been address I would like to point out that there are wonderful public schools here Moore County Schools North Carolina. Southern Pines Middle school has started an International Baccalaureate program (the only middle school program in the US) to prepare them for Pinecrest High School’s International Baccalaureate program. Students can also choose the more tradition AP classes at the high school.

There is also a private school called O’ Neal. I believe it would be a nice alternative.

The area is very nice, not overly crowded. My husband commutes to Raleigh from here. Although I doubt there would be to many will do to that at our gas prices now.

I agree with poster that recommended First health for swimming. There are a lot of great activities as members.

Do keep in mine Pinehurst is a resort/ retirement area. Southern Pines and Aberdeen are great family communities. I’m not say Pinehurst would not be for you but they do have heavy restrictions and you really need to be mindful of elderly neighbors when your children are out side.

The pilot newspaper is online, take a look for job opportunities

Let me know if you have more questions.

There are ver few jobs in this area overall. If you live here and commute to Raleigh, that is approximately a 140 mile round trip. There are fast food restaurants, walmart and some strip malls here. Sanford is about 30 miles one-way so you may be able to get a job up there but even that is not a job mecca. The nicest area I feel in the moore county area is Foxfire. Lots of new homes, lots are usually 3/4 of an acre in size. Homes are not that cheap in this area and people have been unwilling to drop prices much. some homes have been on the market for over a year (spec homes) and are still at the same asking price?
