Statesville, North Carolina: Ingle's Markets acquires property on Sullivan Road (Wilkesboro: 2015, purchases)

Ingle's Markets may be opening a new store on Sullivan Road in the future. Doing business as Ingle's Statesville Exchange LLC, it has acquired three sites for $4.4 million:

• Edge Motors, 714 Sullivan Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28677-3440
• Copeland's Seafood, 716 Sullivan Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28677-3440
• 740 Sullivan Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28677-3440

Ingle's operates one store in Statesville: store 78, Westpark Shopping Center, 3219 Taylorsville Highway, Statesville, North Carolina 28625-2966.

I wonder if the Sullivan Road site will be an additional store or a replacement store location for store 78. Both locations are four miles apart and may be separate trade areas.

It appears Ingle's is moving forward with plans to construct a 72,128-square-foot supermarket with a gas station on the 11.63 acres it acquired in October. Initial plans for the store were rejected by the Statesville Technical Review Committee because of elevation issues. Revised plans may be presented at the next meeting on Wednesday, 4 May.

It remains unknown if this will be an additional store or a replacement of the existing store 78, and if the gas station will be an Ingle's Gas Express or an I-Market convenience store.

The proposed Ingle's should be a nice store for Statesville. As well as the new Publix that is planned. But to Harris Teeter, Bi-Lo, or Food Lion currently exist as competitors?

Harris Teeter had a store at Newtowne Plaza, 1545 East Broad Street, Statesville, North Carolina 28625-4301. I do not know when it specifically close, or what store number it was. The store was already closed by 2007.

Bi-Lo has one store: store 5420, The Shoppes at Broad Street, 1909 East Broad Street, Statesville, North Carolina 28625-4309.

Food Lion has six stores in and surrounding the City of Statesville:

The Statesville Technical Review Board approved plans the 73,168-square-foot Ingle's supermarket at 722 Sullivan Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28677-3440, on Wednesday, 4 May. The plan goes before Statesville's city planning board on Tuesday, 24 May.

Statesville City Council had Ingle's on its Monday, 6 June, meeting agenda. Plans for the new store were approved.
