Hey guys! Young-ish family (27/32 with two year old triplets) looking into preferably Western NC in a few years but we are open to most places of the state as a whole. We lived in Greenville, NC before having kids (didn't love it but do miss it sometimes) and moved back to NYS to be closer to family when we became pregnant with multiples. Now that we see our priorities don't really leave our immediate family we want to move back down to NC by the time the babes start kindergarten. We make about 100k between the two of us and our jobs can really go anywhere with a decent population (Massage Therapist and Auto Sales).

I am interested in hearing where YOU live with your young (or now grown) children: Do you love it? Hate it? Why? Also, any experiences and advice on being an LMT and/or Salesmen in NC are welcomed. Thanks a lot!

People live all over the state with children--there are far more factors to take into account related to YOUR personal needs (jobs, climate preference, city/country preference, etc). Any suburb of any city (not just in NC) will be very family/child friendly--it takes a lot more specificity to narrow down what's best for YOU.

What did you not love about Greenville and what do you miss about it? Are you looking for a small country town in the middle of nowhere? Exurb with 15,000 pops? Suburb with 25,000? Suburb with 150,000? City with 200k? 300? 400? 900? You mentioned WNC, so I'm assuming you want to be closer to the mountains? Just so you know, WNC is shamefully not very lucrative to many industries other than tourism and maybe some healthcare/retail/government jobs. It's also very expensive. The Charlotte metropolitan area is relatively close to the mountains, a very easy daytrip, and has tons of family friendly suburbs. There is also the Ralrigh metro area of course, closer to the beach than is Charlotte and about 1.5 hours farther from the mountains. It takes 2 hours to get from Huntersville (Charlotte suburb) to Asheville and 3.5 hours from Cary (Raleigh suburb) to Asheville. Huntersville is 3.5 hours from Wilmington (beach) and Cary is 2 hours from Wilmington.

I don't blame you for looking first at WNC. It's breathtakingly gorgeous...it's just so expensive and has a real lack of jobs. Then again I have no idea what LMT is or what kind of salesperson you are.

LMT is Licensed Massage Therapist. I wouldn't expect to just jump into employment in that field, especially in Asheville, where it's my understanding that they are a dime a dozen.
