Currently working as a Substitute Teacher in Pennsylvania. Not many opportunities to find full-time positions here so I'm heading south!

Was pleasantly surprised to find that Wake County pays their certified subs what I make in PA. Apartments are A LOT cheaper in NC. This alone made my mind up to move.

I've come across some alarming information about sub applications taking a year to process. The posts were a bit dated and I'd like to think the school system has addressed their shortcomings. Still, imagine moving to a new region and being forced to wait for work to begin.

Does anyone have any direct knowledge of the path to substitute teaching? Any truth to applications taking long periods of time to process? Additionally, can I expect a steady stream of work? Here in PA, work is available daily. My hope is subbing is equally steady in Wake County.

Thanks for reading this bloated rambling! Any input is highly appreciated.

You should pose this question in the Raleigh, Durham, chapel hill forum. I've heard that it does take a while to get your application processed.
