Nextel is terrible as they do not allow you to roam. I have been in some rural parts of NC over the last few years and can honestly say Verizon has always had some sort of signal. Maybe not the best but was able to call out and talk with someone. I came over from AT&T.

Hi CharlotteAgent I agree with you about Verizon. I'd had them all and Verizon is the only one I've gotten reliable service with no matter where I go in the state.

Nextel doesnt have roaming, thats because they have nationwide walkie-talkie. Now that they have merged with Sprint and going through the growing pains of the merger they have come out stronger than ever. They cover a wider area, and the new hybrid phones have sprint coverage and nextel walkie talkie. And people shouldnt confuse, Sprint with the old company that was bought out by Embarq that covered land lines. Sprint PCS and that company are two separate companies.

Nextel has NO coverage in a lot of Rutherford and Polk Counties. I was interested in Nextel, but I checked their coverage maps and there is just not enough coverage in this area. Once you go east of I-26 in Columbus, not a thing.

Light green - Sprint Nextel PowerSource
Dark green - Nationwide Sprint PCS Network only
Yellow - Nationwide Nextel Walkie-Talkie Coverage only

Verizon seems to be the most reliable and I have coverage pretty much everywhere I go. Polk, Henderson, Rutherford, Buncombe, Spartanburg & Greenville, S.C... always a signal. There are always the blind spots in valleys or if you're blocked by a hill, but over all it's usually pretty good.

Hopefully both of those links work.

Dark orange - Best
Orange - Good
Light orange - Moderate
Tan - No coverage

I like Cingulair better, but I'm afraid Verizon would have better coverage! Any experience with Asheville-Brevard area? Do you think Cingulair would work there?

Default Two choices

In Rutherford county - since so much is rural you will hit some dead spots no matter who you use. However, the two best choices with the best coverage in the area are Verizon or Cingular. Verizon seems to be the top choice of most locals.
