Yes. But they also don't have a free pass to do so.

I must have missed the "free pass" ordinance.

If you see a man going into a women's room now you can stop them, that would not be the case had the Charlotte ordinance been put into place.

Sure, some transgenders appear to be the sex opposite of their plumbing, which is why the Charlotte ordinance was so stupid because it has brought light to this where as before most transgenders could probably have gotten away with it without anyone giving it a second glance.

So as a poster commented earlier, businesses in NC can re-configure their restrooms to be more appealing to all. In order to do this, it will cost business owners a decent amount to be so inclusive. Since you and your business are so passionate on this issue, lets give you an opportunity to help fund the businesses trying to bring their bathrooms up to code. You going to contribute or are you and the other businesses claiming to be so "high and mighty" placing NC into a corner all talk and no action?

Ah, the GOP spin machine has been efficiently selling the "remodeled bathroom expense" defense! Silly... and false, but it "sounds" good to those fiscal conservatives.

Hey GOP, what if you just threw your legal defense fund into the bathroom remodel pot?!? No lawsuits, and you create contractor JOBS!!!

I do not live nor have a business in NC. Only go to the High Point shows as a vendor. Get It?? And why would any business want to do that? Guess you were upset when water fountains went biracial as well. And I think you have the wrong people who placed NC into a corner.

Explain how this is relevant to what we are discussing please.

Also why wouldn't a business want to do that? They seem to be upset enough to pull out operations from NC simply to make a statement, why not actually help create an environment as to where the LGBT community they claim to stand up for?

I didn't mean to personally attack you but I am quite sick of hearing about businesses putting a stranglehold on NC and doing nothing to offer up a solution to the issue.

This isnt a defense this is a compromise that everyone could be happy with.

My idea, and another poster touched on this, but would be to regulate that all new construction and new businesses opening in NC have to have either a restroom configuration consisting of private ceiling to floor stalls all unisex and open area for sinks, or add a family bathroom. This would not place an unnecessary mandate on existing businesses nor create a huge burden on future businesses as the expense to build such a configuration would not differ greatly from what a traditional bathroom set up would cost.

Now, for existing businesses, the state would encourage them to retrofit their restroom areas to the newly adopted configuration. The state would offer these businesses tax breaks to help offset the costs of the renovations. Furthermore, the state would also approach these businesses that have been vocal in their opposition and partner with them to assist in helping existing small businesses who want to be more accepting and reconfigure their restrooms fund the costs they will endure.

This plan is a win win win. Win for the transgender community that they no longer have to deal with the issue of which bathroom they use, win for the businesses as they can have assistance enduring the costs for wanting to be more inclusive and are not subject to unnecessary government mandates, and probably the biggest win is that this offer a much safer plan than the one presented and ensures everyone is safe and comfortable. Its also a win for the companies who have an opportunity to contribute to a cause that they are passionate about.

More regulations that are not needed. The Gov and those who passed this bill think freedom should be a one way street. Theirs. They were free to pass that bill the way they did and for what ever reason and those who disagree with it are free to react to it. That is what is happening. Freedom. For those who are now shocked at how they and the state are being perceived, all one can say is ...REALLY????
