Try the Raleigh Metro Area Forum. I'm sure someone there can provide details on the Eagle Ridge area.

The Formation of North Carolina Counties 1663-1943

That's a very interesting map. It's wild about those large mountain counties...I can't imagine how one county could govern so much spread-out isolated land back then.

Lucama

If I had a nickel for everyone who pronounced this wrong, I would be rich. This is where I met my husband at. Small as it is they had a dance hall there in 1985.
Ummm... Loo-kah-mah?

If I had a nickel for everytime I noticed someone ending a sentence with a preposition, I'd be rich.

For anyone interested in seeing how the counties evolved over the years (or doing genealogical research in this state) this section of Rootsweb is invaluable: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawb/countyfm.htm (broken link)

They do it for many of the US states, not just NC. SC has one that is interactive. GA is just plain confused....

Doing research takes patience, LOL. And really GOOD maps. Liz

Check this site for county and city pronunciations. Including Lucama.
