Why is Raleigh competing against Charlotte & over what?
RTP, North Hills, Cary, etc etc aren’t organic. And all that growth is just as fake as ours. You do realize both cities are cookie cutter overall? You act like Raleigh is Richmond sometimes.
We’re all fake news. Rather be fake, dynamic and growing than fade away losing Piedmont Airlines, Wachovia, Krispy Kreme, Lowe’s just to claim how “organic” one os (despite pretty much every larger Southern City seeming so fake compared to every region in the US)
Annexing half the State= inorganic growth and development (IMO of course ). Again, Charlotte should be on the same level as Atlanta, but it has to much competition in it’s own state lol.
Over a 160 pages for this topic should let you know that Charlotte isn’t what you guys hype it up to be lol.
I haven’t even been on here as much “trolling”, and this topic is still going on. As a matter of fact, I think my last post ( before this week) was on page 60 something. I must not be the only one who isn’t moved by the smoke and mirrors tactic you guys present.

Downtown Raleigh is getting, officially announced, two premium grocery stores and two chain supermarkets: Publix on Peace and West, Harris Teeter on Seaboard Station, Weaver Street at the Dillion, and Saxapahaw General Store at the Transfer Co. - Olde East food hall on East and Davie St. That will pretty much covers the core of Downtown Raleigh quite nicely. Once FNB tower, Dillion, Union Station, 400H, 301H, 701H, Glenwood One and Two, the Edison Office Tower, the two food halls open (Morgan St and Transfer Co. - Olde East), the recently announced purchase of two lots in the warehouse district that developers want to make more than ten stories, and the rumored next tallest property officially purchased by developers, Raleigh will continue to be buzzing. Modest growth for a modest city.
Plus the recent city-purchased 308 acres of Dorothea Park will soon be re-modeled to become Raleigh's premier downtown green space park and recreation area. Uptown Charlotte has no more space for a central park like Raleigh unless it wants to remove the cemeteries to the west.
Raleigh will get big towers eventually but we rather compete with Durham, CH/Carrboro, and Asheville for best indie music scene, food, festivals--hence recent national attention from Forbes and Eater about our food scene--among many articles that place Raleigh in the top 10 of whatever quality of life metric they're using. I suppose Charlotte gets a lot more pop music rolling in. Someone notify me the next time Christina Aguilera is at the Fillmore--no, no please don't.
Raleigh's got a ways to go to keep up with Charlotte downtown wise. Other than the center city, the hoods located around the I-277 are booming plus the light rail. I work downtown Raleigh and am just not impressed, it's gotten better but it needs a ton of work no matter how many times they boast Raleigh ranks this or that...it's got a ways to go. Prior to working downtown Raleigh, I worked downtown Charlotte the past few years so I am not getting into a pissing contest. Charlotte (downtown) is simply on a different level compared to downtown Raleigh with respect to vibrancy, amenities, etc. I think part of the reason for the lag is Charlotte seemingly focused on the center city decades ago and didn't have to compete with a RTP or Durham in it's metro.
When I look at Charlotte and Raleigh, they are indeed both two different cities with different growth patterns. The Raleigh area is a multi city metro unlike Charlotte. I don't see one city better than the other. Charlotte has a larger population and a bigger skyline but that doesn't make it better or ahead of Raleigh. Raleigh has more higher paying jobs and a little more culture and tradition but that doesnt make it better than Charlotte. We should celebrate the differences between the two cities because that is part of what makes our state great. Because of the difference between Charlotte and Raleigh and for that matter Greensboro, Durham and Winston-Salem, our state has something to offer to everyone and that includes our rural areas, coastal cities and mountain cities. This is why people are moving to North Carolina. What is considered better is really more of a personal opinion. There is a reason people choose to live in Charlotte and the same can be said about Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, Winston-Salem, Asheville and Wilmington and frankly every municipality in this state. Not everyone likes the urban life. Many people love the rural life, many people love big city life and many love somewhere in between.

Lol.
It’s funny, only a couple Triangle posters are so dramatic about CLT and rankings and it’s place in the world. Quick to knock CLT at the things it’s good at and compare it to larger cities to discredit it.
I don’t recall any Charlotte poster mentioning the sliding of the size of the Tech workforce in Triangle.
Quote:
Raleigh is shrinking pretty heavily in its share of national tech jobs, falling at a rate of 14.6%. Still, the city does have some 11.1% of its open jobs focused on the tech sector.
5th largest tech center in the US....SAD. Raleigh is heavily outflanked by the Premier tech hub of the east coastC. The other larger east coast tech hub is Baltimore. Raleigh’s tech force is shrinking it’ll probably fall rather as a tech hub in the eastern US. Sad! Maybe it’s because the food options & Educatiln severely lack that of Washington DC. Pathetic, Raleigh will never be anything more than an “uneducated city” that is the Capitol of the state that had Pat McCrory.... very fitting.
And can we stop acting like Raleigh had a good quality school. UNC is only ranked 30th as best college in the US. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges...l-universities LOL. It’s sad seeing as Raleigh is supposedly the home of a “good” university. But it’s only 30. Lolz. Keep trying! Durham has Duke that was only #9. The triangle consistently only has subpar universities that never tops even the top 5. UNC rarely told top 20. Educated city? LONG way to go.
Raleigh had a longggg way to go if it ever wants to be like DC, which it will never be. DC is a much larger, premier tech hub of the Eastern US. DC ranks much, much higher on the food scene than Raleigh. DC is the Museum Capitol. DC has a larger education scene. Raleigh is only Capitol of N.C. Washington DC is Capitol ofnthe ENTIRE US. LOLZ, keep trying to be DC.
(If it wasn’t obvious.... it’s a satirical version of Metro & The other troll poster)
What is the talk in Greensboro about an auto plant?
Also about high paying jobs, I see a lot of million dollar home being built around town. Somebody is making big bucks.

This. Sorry everyone, i dont carry the same feverish opinions that apparently some of the other triangle area posters do. It can be fun to have a friendly competition on a forum but its really not that serious lol.
I will be going to Raleigh more, so I like to know where there are good places to eat.
I have my favorite place in Charlotte, most are local own.
As far as what is being built in each city, I like to know. I do not fine Raleigh's post about development bad.

You work in downtown Raleigh? Why are you here? If your precious Charlotte is so great. Why would you cheat yourself? Oh I forgot, better job opportunity in Mayberry lol!!!
You need to seek help. If you're still on your old conspiracy theory. You,Charlotte or city-data aren't that important.
It is kinda ironic don't you think. At every turn you trash Raleigh. Yet you moved here for a better opportunity
Btw it's Atowwn
What a loser
