If this was true, then Fayetteville, the largest republican city in the entire State, would be receiving huge loads of unneeded grants from McCrory (unless they are).

Some interesting data points to contrast the difference in growth pattern between Raleigh/Triangle & Charlotte is multi-family construction. The Triangle has 10,300 apartment units under construction or proposed while Charlotte has 23,000 in the same category. In fact Charlotte's combined numbers are more than all the metro areas in the state combined. It doesn't make it better but highlights the progression of Mecklenburg County in particular into a more dense development pattern.

This is becoming a trend Maybe things like parks and greenways hold more weight than tall buildings. Also I thought more than %2 of Charlotte area residents use public transportation?

U.S. News and Report rates Raleigh, Durham Triangle No. 7 best place to live | News & Observer

Choloboy, traffic is better in Charlotte than LA. Not really a fair comparison. LA has some of if not the worst traffic in America. Besides we're not comparing LA and Charlotte. It's Raleigh/Triangle vs Charlotte. Charlotte has by far the worst traffic in North and South Carolina.

I said what I said and I'm not taking it back. Coming from Raleigh to Charlotte sure the traffic in your eyes might be bad but I live in Charlotte. As myself and other Charlotte natives, when there's traffic there's other ways of getting around it. That's what happens when you actually live in a place vs visiting a city once or twice a month. Sounds like you just take freeways and think youll get somewhere fast. Just by your response alone tells me that you dont explore charlotte enough so stay stuck in traffic everytime you visit. The traffic here is doable and it's not as bad as what you make it seem and comes with Charlotte being a bigger and larger city as other posters have said.

Both cities scored high. But it pretty much sums up what makes each city popular that people have been arguing about

Charlotte is a region that's equal parts old-fashioned southern charm and high-energy cosmopolitan bustle. You'll still hear "y'all" dropped into casual conversation, but Charlotte is a metro area on the rise, and has its own culture, culinary sophistication and unique feel that's making it a more enticing place for people from all over the world to settle down. This melting pot effect makes Charlotte an easy area to break into. You're not from here? Well neither are most people you'll meet.

Charlotte has become a place filled with new restaurants to try and events that attract people from all over. It's a standalone destination area now, no longer living in the shadow of Atlanta or Charleston, South Carolina. Though Charlotte has evolved significantly in the past decade, the transformation is only continuing, as evidenced by the numerous construction cranes across the skyline

Charlotte is a region of small neighborhoods, each with a distinctive feel and energy. While there are plenty of housing options in the downtown area (actually referred to as Uptown), many residents choose to live in the neighborhoods surrounding the metro area's center. The North Davidson area (known as NoDa) features a vibrant arts community and is a favorite among 20- and 30-somethings.

Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill are known for their research/technology roots and collegiate rivalries. This tri-city region (known as the Triangle) is luring nearly 80 new residents a day with strong job growth and a high quality of life.

Many people who call the Raleigh and Durham metro areas home are young, friendly, diverse and educated. They enjoy dining out in local restaurants – many of which have earned national accolades – and gathering over craft beers in one of the region's many microbreweries. A strong sense of community is evident, as strangers are quick to provide a friendly conversation when standing in line at the supermarket.

Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill also encompass beautiful green spaces
, family-friendly museums and a growing art and music scene defined by monthly gallery walks, summer concerts and music festivals like Hopscotch.

Charlotte is a (relative to the south) metropolitan city, bigger city feel. Centered around uptown.

Triangle is a tech place, education, great place to raise family, great place to eat and great liberal cities & towns

I agree to a point with you. For some reason Raleigh keeps coming out ahead. I am surprised that Charlotte has such a relatively small amount of greenway compared to the Triangle.

Again both areas are nice. It might be helpful if you guys stopped trying to put Charlotte in a league of it's own. When clearly it's not. Bigger but that's about it.

Go figure, Fayetteville, Arkansas is better than the Triangle and Charlotte per US News and has a higher quality of life score. Maybe we should all be looking at Arkansas for relocating.

Still not sure what you're getting at, everyone has agreed that city v city, Charlotte is clearly in a league of it's own in the state. Metro to metro, not so much, what's the big deal? Wilmington is near the Ocean and has a river. fact. Asheville is in the foothills/mountains of NC. fact. Fayetteville is our military town. fact. Charlotte is our "big" city. fact. Raleigh is the state capitol. fact.

Most people don't read click bait news, but a lot do. Enough to make a business out of it. There are so many people that read this stuff that US News, who gave up on doing journalism and print, became an onlibe 'rank' website. They started with colleges and realized Americans are obsessed with ranks so they just built their entire online site on ranking random stuff. They even rank 'Best Airport Sit Down Restaurants", "Best Hotels In Wailea", "Best Airport Bathrooms." People eat it up like mosquitoes going to a light. They change the rankings ever so often too... every other year they switch Harvard and Princeton for #1.... as if that much changes in a year. But people click on the site to see the "big reveal" of #1 college each year.... shocker, they flipped Harvard and Princeton. Other click bait sites.... there literally is a site that ranks youth soccer clubs.... the guy just shifts around the ranks based off wins and losses he finds online and he gets over 12 million clicks on the weekly 'reveal' day. Lots of ad revenue from that.
It's rather amazing how many people click on this stuff, smart people too, and just dump money into US News and other 'rank sites' back pocket.
