IMO, the point is not irrelevant.
This is how politicized the current atmosphere is, and how fluid current ethic is, that regimes that make NC look warm and cuddly can get a hug for money.
This. This is what it is really all about.....unfortunately.

Obviously, the Feds cannot make Canadian or British entertainers perform anywhere.

Thank you. Of course it is.

The largest employer in NC does business in all those countries and opposes HB2, so are they hypocritical also. Maybe the governor can go on a rant and tell all those businesses based in or have operations in NC that they are hypocrites if they do business in repressive countries, yet oppose the NC law.

According to some he would be correct in his statement.

Huh? So, you have moved or plan to move, asap, from NC because you don't want to be hypocritical? Of course not.
Clearly, hypocrisy is evident when a person or firm cites NC HB2 as good reason to withdraw from the state, yet continues to seek to profit from doing business in other countries with far more punitive laws.

The point is not irrelevant, but it is a false equivalence.

Anyone who thinks these musical acts performing in these other countries are doing so to fight repression is seriously naive. Come on. It's all about the bottom dollar. That is all it is. Getting your brand worldwide. Worldwide performances = $$$. They can afford to cancel a show in NC because it makes them look more like humanitarians, which = more $$$ in the long run.

And, it opens up a schedule date, so they can perform, not lose revenue, and look like heroes.
Or, Ringo can take a day off instead of performing 3 nights in a row.

Let's not over think this. Maybe the artists just believe North Carolina doesn't deserve a cookie for being a bully.

Moving to a more "blue" state and away from a government who passes hate legislation.
