Fayetteville can be okay if you need to be there (military or other job) or have ties there (friends or family), but if you're starting off fresh I'd choose Greensboro.
I really don't mean to diss Fayetteville, but it's not even a contest. I can't imagine anyone who would ever pick Fayetteville over Greensboro if they had a choice.

Fayetteville is a town.with a massive Military base.
That's it.
Greensboro has way more to offer, From low to high end shopping, a bustling Night life scene, state of the art entertainment venues, Opportunities for job growth and just overall way more things to do.
North side of Greensboro seems to be what you're looking for.
