Southern Pines area (apartments, college, to live)

My son just interviewed for a position in this area. He is a recent college grad. Is this a good area for a young active adult. Where is the closest ice-rink with adult hockey leagues. He does like golf, so I know he would find somewhere to play. Also, how about apartment availability and costs? Thanks!

Ice hockey? No, none around here at all. Golf? Can't miss!
Apartments? Go on line to the pilot (local newspaper) under classifieds. He should be able to find a place for short term. After he's been here a few weeks, he'll have a better idea of where he wants to live.
