This was an interesting thread until derailed by the children. Informative.

Now tainted by "insecurity is real, lolz"

Anyway, it was good while it lasted. Especially hearing about Greensboro & Durham

For the record, here are some synonyms of the word generic.

-broad
-all-encompassing
-comprehensive
-inclusive
-nonspecific

Isn't having a BROAD range of options downtown a good thing? We all want to visit ALL-ENCOMPASSING downtowns right? We want a COMPREHENSIVE array of entertainment options downtown too. A downtown that is INCLUSIVE to many different flavors is a plus. A NONSPECIFIC reason to visit downtown means that people will come for more than just one thing.

So YES, uptown Charlotte is very generic. I agree!!!

I'm glad we can finally agree on something lol.

Charlotte can stick with generic, and I wish it all the best while it continues following the path other cities have already laid out successfully (Atlanta), while maintaining its identity challenged feel.

Raleigh will continue to be unique and follow its own path, while growing rapidly, and landing on the best cities lists at the same time.

I think many are focusing on bars, clubs, restaurants...that sort of thing. Honestly, those come and go.

Let me take Charlotte for example...what I really like about Charlotte's downtown is that it has a NFL stadium, a NBA arena, and a AAA baseball stadium within its downtown. That is obviously unparalleled in North Carolina. And then the Childrens Theater, Rail line...its all unique to Charlotte

In Wilmington...you can take a river taxi to the Battleship North Carolina, there is a Sepentarium, Thalian Hall, Cotton Exchange, Horse and Carriage rides through the Historic District, Childrens Museum...all very unique to Wilmington.

To me...that is what makes a downtown...something unique.

In Edenton, the courthouse park downtown has cannons that overlook Edenton Bay. Its a setting that cant be replicated anywhere else. Its unique.

So in your argument for best downtowns...consider what is unique about it...not talking about a restaurant or bar or collection of them. Buildings, scenery, history, events...

Leave it to a Charlotte crew member to only isolate my comment as an example of how to taint a thread, while completely ignoring the fact that I was confronted by one of their members first. I didn't even bring Charlotte up in my initial post.

Indeed, the insecurity is real

Well it seems they listened to the complaints and a local bowling franchise out Raleigh "The Alley", will be opening up in the old Liberty Warehouse rather than a Dave and Busters. Personally it made me happy.
