I live in Atlantic Beach (just over the bridge from the mainland of Morehead City), but, because we are a beach area, I would think a photography business would do well. There are a few established businesses of such, but truly, in any small town, it is all about making good connections. So, if you come here, connect with the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce and the Carteret Community College Small Business Center. Invaluable resources. I'm very well familiar with both, and you will find them quite welcoming and helpful. Good luck.

Wilkes County is a great place to start a biz. Its close to Boone and the surrounding mountain regions. Its a great place with good schools. Still the cost of living is down. Good homes, schools are making a major improvement with technology. New biz are coming in . There are Lowes offices, Tyson Foods are located here. Its a family oriented community with lots of great views and interesting !

The Small Business & Technology Development Center is an excellent resource on small businesses in NC, and it's free! Usually they deal with people who are already established, starting or growing a business, but if you contact the main office, they may have more general info on the climate for that industry.
