Default *Moving To The Fayetteville Area

We are a military family with four kids. We have lived in the Fayetteville area a few years ago and we know we really don't want to live in Fayetteville again, but rather an outside town. We need great schools most importantly!! And we have a budget of about $250 max. We desire to have at least 1/2 acre or more and lots of trees on our lot. We need a safe area where the kids can play outside and I don't need to be watching them all the time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Moore County. That was our choice when we moved back to Fort Bragg.
Southern Pines, Aberdeen. I would say to check around, with the price range of $ 250. Start checking on web sites in neighborhoods around Fort Bragg Rd.
You can find some older houses, but it's a beautiful area, very close to the Fort Bragg gate. It takes between 25/30 min to get to work for my husband, no traffic, beautiful drive.
Lots of military family are moving here, for the same reason, nice lifestyle, very safe neighborhoods, good schools.
For us, it was the best choice.
Good luck.

Talking Fort Bragg, Here We Come!

We are moving to Fort Bragg. We will be there this summer/fall time frame. We are not going to be living on post, so we need a direction as to where to live outside of Fayetteville, or maybe a nice area within Fayetteville. We have 4 school aged kids, so an awesome school district is a MUST. Plus, we are looking for a nice lot with mature trees. Any ideas??? Any help would be appreciated!!!

There ARE nice places within Fayetteville, in particular, the Stoney Point elementary school area/Jack Britt HS area. PM me if you'd like a link to allow you to search by school district (I'm not a realtor, but have gotten "in trouble" for posting a GREAT home search link that is from a realtor website). My kids went there for only one year before we moved away, and the schools were great. We lived in a new subdivision but our back yard backed up to another sub. called Landsdowne, and the lots were bigger with older trees.....You didn't say if you were looking to rent our buy, but I just looked up Landsdowne and they have a beautiful house for rent right now, though the homes were built in the 90s and are a bit smaller than some of the newer homes. Birch Creek is also in the same HS district, with a different but good elem. school, and has older homes (90s again) with more trees and bigger lots. There are a couple for sale as well, but not many, it's a nice area.
These are safe areas, away from the "heart" of fayetteville where the crime is centered. Good luck. BTW, we had many (mostly!) military families as neighbors and they seemed very happy with their choice to be farther away from the base, with good schools and a nice, safe neighborhood.

Try Brian Keith Meadows. The subdivision is on Harnett Central Rd in Angier. It is just outside Lillington off 210. This is a short commute to Bragg and it is within a mile of Harnett Central Schools (very good). One of the builders in there is Heavenly Homes who built our house in Cary. We drove out one day just looking around and couldn't believe what they were putting in their homes for that price $229000 - $259000. Tile, granite counter tops, hardwoods and lots of trim. I don't know about the other builders in there but I can vouch for them.

There's also Eastover & Stedman--both in the Cape Fear district with really good schools!

I was wanting something in either the Jack Britt school area, or the Southview school area, and we ultimately settled for something in Southview. We live in a subdivision off of Elk Rd, and I love it, although I doubt you'd find a home in this neighborhood that would be big enough for you, and that would have a large enough yard. An idea would be to check out Fox Meadow off of Legion Rd. past Baldwin Elementary (coming from Owen Dr). The homes over there look a bit bigger, and the yards a big larger. It might be stretching your price range a bit, but not by much, I don't think.

If you're looking for big yards with nice trees and landscaped natural areas I'd check out some of the areas the previous posters mentioned, as well as maybe the Gray's Creek area, which is southeast of Fayetteville. The commute may be a few minutes longer, but there are some nice neighborhoods there. That being said, with just about any part of Fayetteville, you'll find undesirable neighborhoods not far from the nice ones.

You might want to consider Sanford if a 20ish mile commute isn't too far.

We have a lot of Ft. Bragg personnel living in Sanford, as they like the small-city feel, affordable home prices, great community, and good schools.

$250k will get you quite a house in Sanford.
