The upcoming North Carolina General Assembly of 2017-2018 will be the first since the North Carolina General Assembly of 2011-2012 that where the Republican Party dominated both chambers under a Democratic Governor. How was the relationship between the North Carolina General Assembly of 2011-2012 and Governor Bev Perdue?
Gone are the conspiracy theories about the General Assembly deciding the race.
The most interesting part will be the special session coming up.
But what do people expect to see from Cooper now? I'm serious for those who support Cooper what do you want to see him do as governor and what do you think he will accomplish with a Republican legislature?
I mean. He probably can't do too much because of Gerry meandering. Hopefully he will create some allies with the suburban GOP
Their relationship was terrible. She vetoed many of the bills sent to her by the GA, and the GA overrode every one of them. I suspect things will be similar with Cooper. I'm sure that played a large role in her decision to not run for re-election.
I think the NCGA may be more likely to compromise with Roy than they were with Bev because they have seen Pat lose and they are well aware of the voters' disapproval of him and the policies under his administration. They rode the Tea Party wave into office, but there is no Tea Party wave now. With the court order to redraw the districts their jobs are on the line again sooner than they expected. If they don't play halfway nice with Roy some of them stand a real chance to be looking for new jobs alongside Pat.
We need government that can listen to the people and compromise on legislation. Pat's administration just rammed legislation through. The people of NC don't want that and that's why Pat got the boot.

I hope you are right, but I'll believe it when I see it. Frankly I am not optimistic the assembly is going to change course at all, and with their veto-proof majority Cooper can't do anything to stop it.
Still though, McCrory lost, so I'll be happy with that for now.
