What town to live in in NC!?!
Hey there everyone.
Originally I'm from New Jersey. I've lived there since I was 18 months old. My Dad has been getting sick with cancer in the past few years and all my mom's family is in North Carolina so we decided to make the move here in hopes of better support and lower costs of things - problem is, they moved us to FARMVILLE, North Carolina. I was having the best of times in New Jersey and was completely accustomed to New York and becomming very accustomed to Philly as well. All my closest and lifelong friends AND MY BOYFRIEND are back "home." I don't have the money to go back and stay there though and my boyfriend and I would like to stay together. He would like to move down here with me to get away from all the bull**** there is in his area, so we're both looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment of the sorts. I have a pit bull so I need somewhere that will allow dogs too... I'm clueless on what town to live in though... We're both young and adventurous and well acquanted with city and ghetto areas but we'd also like to live in a place that's relatively safe. We'll really only be around for 6-7 months since I'm going to school in Cali. next year and he'll move with me again. Does anyone have any suggestions on city areas, college towns, party towns, or just active, urban, progressive type areas with bars, clubs, corner pizza shops, underground rock shows, concerts, entertainment...etc?

Mmm. Sorry, it's me again. I guess it helps to say that we're asking about towns and their atmospheres? We're looking for some place that has a great night life and social scene.

Charlotte, Raleigh and Wilmington should probably be the first cities you check out. I would expect them to have what you're looking for. Maybe even Durham (though I hear bad things about it) and Winston-Salem.

Why would you want to endanger the other people, children especially, in an apartment complex with a pit bull? I am thinking of the child in Durham who was killed by his neighbor's pit bull and the woman in San Francisco who was killed by another vicious dog. I can't imagine a landlord who would want to rent a small apartment to someone with a large aggressive dog. There would be far too much potential liability and damage.

I can't find it now, but I think there was some info on here in the last couple of months about some places (cities or neighborhoods?) having strict rules not allowing pit bulls -- or maybe it was something about there being a lot of "anti-pit" people. Thought you might be interested in reading them... but as I said I can't find the posts now. Anyway it's something you might want to look into (specific to your dog's breed, not just whether they allow dogs or not) so you don't find out too late that your dog is not allowed there.

Being a Landlord, I know that some insurance companies have established policies regarding certain breeds of dogs that they consider agressive. It includes the pitbull, whether or not you consider your particular dog agressive. The company will not write a policy if the property houses one of the breeds, or will not cover it if one of them is allowed into the property. That is an issue for the landlord.
I, for one, will not rent a property to someone with a pitbull under any circumstances whatsoever. Should I find out that one has been let into the property after renting it, it would be grounds for immediate eviction. I don't need the exposure.
As the owner of the property, I would have something to lose. The renter would just have the emotional attachment to the dog and oftentimes has little assets to be placed at risk if there is an incident. It's just the way it is.
So, good luck on finding someplace to rent to you with the pitbull. However, I think you're barking up a very tall tree.

Other "insurance risk" dogs include rottweilers, chows, doberman pinschers, German shepherds, huskies, Akitas, Boxers, Great Danes, among others. Here's an article:

I second the landlord motion of not allowing these dogs on my property. The liability is too great.

I'm in Charlotte and its a great town for young people that want fun. Its a "newer" city, so it will be different from what you will find in cities in the NE.
Chapel Hill, Durham and Ashville are all progressive cities w/ a great music scene and nightlift for younger people.
Good luck!!

NCHomeFinder, that was a site for a LAW FIRM???? I bet there are more dog bites by dogs under 25lbs, just never reported. I dont care what breed of dog it is,it all comes down to the owner and how that pet is raised.....just like kids.
