Lol NC should higher up. South Carolina's economy being better than North Carolina's?!
The two states are essentially tied in that category and if you look at the criteria, it's not hard to see how. You may be unfamiliar with the many high-profile economic development deals SC has snagged in the past couple of years. Although I wish more of them were of the white-collar variety, the deals that SC has landed tend to have a multiplier effect throughout the state.
I would rank MA #1 in healthcare with the availability of Mass General, Bringham Women's, Dana Farber + others. After living in MA for 25 years, the Winters, price of housing and property taxes are probably taken altogether rank as a negative #1.
I'm an NC native, so I wouldn't know. But, I'd wager the public education in MA is pretty highly ranked, as well. I just found out I was right (they're number one) without even checking the list. Healthcare and education are so vitally important to any and every state.

That's the only research that claims SC is better than NC economically. If you call a few months old, then I can't help you there.
Except I didn't call a few months old; I said this USNWR ranking uses more recent data. I'd appreciate it if you didn't put words in my mouth (so to speak).
Apparently you seem to be flustered by the ebb-and-flow nature of economic data, the different ways economic data can be crunched, and the fact that SC and NC are essentially tied for economy in this particular ranking. I can assure you, it's not that serious for one, and secondly, SC has obviously been making economic progress that you're unaware of. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Anybody who can read could see that; it didn't take me saying it.
