I can't believe people are surprised SC has a better economy than NC.
Lol they build cars in SC
For a state 3/2 the size of Charlotte CSA that's very good.

A car factory is nothing in comparison to a fortune 500 or tech headquarters in TRP. Much higher salaries and stimulation of surrounding areas.

Just a reminder to everyone acting like SC somehow beats NC economically:

GDP per Capita:
NC: $48,585
SC: $39,380 (third worst in the country)

Both states have similar unemployment levels (bad):
U3 Unemployment:
NC: 5.9%
SC: 5.9%

U6 Unemployment (aka real unemployment):
NC: 11.3%
SC: 11.4%

I don't think there's anyone here acting as though SC beats NC economically. This ranking has them essentially tied and compiles lots of different metrics to reach that conclusion.

I'm actually not surprised by the GDP per capita ranking as a huge chunk of newcomers to SC are retirees and that drags the number down.

Also those are not the most recent unemployment numbers; they are from 2015. The December 2016 figures have SC at 4.3% and NC at 5.2%. https://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm

Here's a source that gives economic snapshots for each state. Good info: https://www.jec.senate.gov/public/_c...nuary-2017.pdf
