Vacation: NC vs SC
Hello! We are planning a vacation in August and are trying to decide between NC or SC. Any recommendations or advice? I will appreciate any replies. Thank you.

I guess it depends what you are looking for while on vacation? Are you looking to be near the beaches? If so both NC and SC have nice coasts.

I always suggest Charleston, SC. Lots of stuff to do besides just the beach but of course you are close to the beach as well. August though, I might be more inclined to suggest the mountains though ;-). Just depends on what you like to do. Blowing Rock is really, really nice and so is the Asheville area.

I always suggest Asheville for a summer vacation . . . side trips to Mt. Mitchell, Biltmore House . . . and you can drive over to Gatlinburg easily if you wish.

If you are looking fo a beach vacation the Outer Banks is a wonderful spot. We have been going for years so if you want any info I'd be happy to help.

Unless you're going for the beach, I'd stay away from Charleston in August. Woo-baby. It's hot.
The NC mountains are wonderful in the summer, and you can enjoy cool evenings, too.

Kiawah (30 minutes outside Charleston) is a slice of heaven. Wonderful beach, restaurants nearby, and Charleston around the corner. Also outside of Charleston is a plantation named Middleton Place. This is a beautiful place to stay, with loads of history. Another nice beach is Sunset Beach in North Myrtle Beach. You're separated from the world by a "swing bridge" that opens for boat traffic every hour. Because of the way the water flows around and through Sunset Beach it seems like an island; much more so than Ocean Isle. This is a great place to just chill out and enjoy a few days or a week primarily on the beach. However, if you want to go out, restaurants are nearby, and there's night life at Barefoot Landing and Broadway on the Beach. Right outside the swing bridge is Sea Isle Plantation with one of the best golf courses in the area. You can get a glimpse of Kiawah in the movie "Bagger Vance". The golf course shots along the beach are at Kiawah. Oh, and there's Hilton Head; wonderful. And not far from Savannah.
