Bostongal is on a distinguished road
Smile Boston to NC

Hello all,

My fiance and I are 25 and 27. He is originally from Boston and I am from upstate NY. I have lived here in Boston for almost 7 years and we are ready for a change. We both have great full time jobs and can barely get by with the crazy cost of living up here among other things, we have both taken on part time jobs on the weekends...now working 7 days a week...not fun!

We recently had some friends move to NC and are considering it ourselves. We would like to live somewhere more affordable, we have recently been looking at houses for sale in NC and cant believe how much you get for your money down there. We would like to move to a growing area, populated highly with couples in their mid 20's to 30's with young kids as well. We love city life..but dont mind something a bit smaller than Boston eithor. We love to go out on the weekend to bars/clubs atleast once a week, we enjoy shopping, and the finer things in life..nice restaurants etc. Can anyone guide us as to where some nice places are to live and why? Any help would be much appreciatted. Thanks, [/font]

Charlotte! Has a great uptown area with a fun urban feel. A lot to do in the Charlotte area. Great area to live in general.

Do you want to live in the city or the suburbs? Too, where would you work (a big consideration on where to live). If you're interested in the city, there is a poster, charlotteagent, on the Charlotte sub-forum. This person is very knowledgable with the city in general and will be of much more help than me. Suburbs I'd recommend would be the Concord/Harrisburg area, the entire Lake Norman area, and the Rock Hill/Ft. Mill area. Good luck in your search!!!

very true..i am pretty sure that my fiance's office he would be transferring to would be right in charlotte (in the city). I would like to work in the city as well...how bad is the traffic? and are there means of public trasportation (train) if it is bad?? Boston traffic is pretty bad..but is Charlotte's worse?

No, Charlotte's traffic is nothing like Boston But it is worse here than it has ever been. 80,000 people moved to Charlotte just in the last year!

We do not have trains, but the first leg of our light rail system will open in the coming months, running from uptown to the south. Our city bus system is pretty nice though. If your job(s) would be in uptown Charlotte I personally recommend living in south Charlotte, this way you can avoid needing to use the interstate to get to work if you want to. The best thing you could do after you have gathered all your data is to plan a visit to Charlotte to see if it is a good fit for you. This is a family oriented town and some singles have complained we lack a real big city singles scene. Good luck in your search for a new home

thank you so much..that really helps. We are really looking for somewhere that we can start our life togethor..Boston is so expensive..we really cant forsee any time in the near future affording a nice house here since it is so pricey. We are not too worried about the singles scene..we like to go out togethor and have a few drinks, go out to dinner, etc..but more than anything we are looking for a better way of life...less stressful.

There are many nice restaurants in Charlotte. But also, there is often live music around too. In the summertime the Stonecrest shopping center in the Ballantyne section of south Charlotte, and the Birkdale Village shopping center in the Huntersville area to the north both have live music in their outside courtyard areas every Friday starting at about 5 p.m. Hundreds of people turn out to listen to the free music and/or dine out in the surrounding restaurants. It's really nice. Vendors sell beer or wine and friends meet up after work to start their weekend. Charlotte can be a very pleasant place to live and raise a family

Are you talking about for renting or buying? And how much do you want to spend?
