Default HELP! Looking to move to NC and need advice

I live up here in the Adirondacks (NY) and looking to move to NC. (Enjoy the warm weather too much for this neck-of-the-woods!) I have a three-year-old and a one-year-old and plan to make the move before my oldest has to go to kindergarten. I have just started my search for towns and feel a little overwhelmed. Looking at the map, I think I would rather live in the northeast part of the state, but an excellent school system is our number one priority. Obviously a job would be a must as well.I would like to live close enough to a city so that my husband could commute, but far enough away so that I don't feel we're living on top of our neighbors. We are into organics, gardening and environmentally friendly living, so we would love a town that has that kind of feel. (Not necessary though) Oh yeah, and we don't like the boonies!!!!!!
So, if anyone had any advice to give on great towns and schools, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Oh my this sounds like my situation. Very similar! We are moving for warm weather, have a 3 and 5 yr old and also are into organics, enviro friendly. Funny! Have you had any luck on finding a city? I have looked at Morgantown, Salisbury, but not real sure yet. We need to go down there to check it out. I wish you luck and we will have to compare our notes.
