to need to get out...wisconsin...
Hi there. I get what you're saying about Wisconsin...we lived in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the Wisconsin boarder...Tons of snow! There were so many bars and they'd open at seven in the morning...some people think that's an exaggeration...the police column in the local paper was always full of DUI from teen-agers to eighties...I think there were many factors...the constant snow, short summers, not enough jobs, low pay, to name a few. Where we were, houses for sale were very cheap...from $5,000(no kidding) up...The community was very closed off to newcomers and frankly did not want people to move there. On the plus side, if you like the outdoors, full of all activities, cheap camgrounds, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
We've lived in many areas in Michigan and the early days, Maine. I love North Carolina. The western part is beautiful, mountainous...I haven't been to the coast, but since I'm from a small fishing villiage in Maine, I'd want to at least see the coast...I hear New Bern, Elizabeth City, Edonton, crystal coast...all good areas. But, really, don't know much about it there since we are in Asheville area.

Moving
Hey Len,
Im sure you will find the right place for each of you. I moved to Charlotte a couple of years ago and have settled in the University area. I am close to Concord, and the Cabarrus County line. Both of which I would have preferred living in, but with my school south I have found a nice place close to both. I dont know much about Ashville yet, but what I have heard, is very positive. I have heard good things about just about everything that is "north" of Charlotte. Lake Norman etc.
Good luck

Hello:
I am native of Charlotte, North Carolina and lived there my entire life. I have been in New Jersey for a little over nine months.
There are a few things that I have realized from being away from my beloved hometown and I would like to pass them on. These tips will help you blend into your new neighborhood. This is strictly a Southern person living up North opinion.
If you have one please take care of your lawn, ask a local and they will be happy to help you and it is a good way to meet your neighbors.
Do not litter.
Not all people from the South are racist, so don’t assume.
There are good places to eat other than bbq, ask a local.
Use your inside voice.
If someone says “Hey how ya doin”…. they are just saving “Hello”.
Charlotte was really nice before they plowed it all over to make room for all the growth.
As far as schools go, yes they suck, why because of what I call re-segregation. They where desegregated for a reason, careful what you wish for.
Sugar gets more bees than vinegar….nuff said.
Lastly, 485 will be completed in 2556 so don’t hold your breath.
So if you want to move to Charlotte, great and if you don’t that is great too. Just remember, a few of us are natives, please be respectful. Just as I have since I have been up here.
Thanks.

Former Ohio Natives-Love NC!
We actually started at the coast- but once we hit the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mtns. that was it! We ended up with two homes(long story) not far from Asheville, that we currently run as vacation rentals until we can relocate. Just put one up for sale in Bat Cave, near Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Spectacular area that is starting to grow and real estate is going up. Plenty to do in the area, hiking, waterfalls, rafting, horse back riding, golf, fishing. People are so friendly and welcoming. I was afraid they wouldn't accept Northerners, but there are so many transplants! Hendersonville and Asheville are not too far away for live theater and music, shopping, museums, tons of restaurants. Autumn is fabulous!! Moderator cut: advertising

Crystal Coast, NC
I would have to say that the friendliest people I've met live in NC! The living area in the Crystal Coast is a very beautiful and I love driving around looking at the vivid color of the water and all the boats. Naturally, seafood is a great natural product here, though the business has fallen in the past few years.
I saw my first lavender/pink sunset right here in Beaufort, NC. There are great places to eat, one of my favorites is the Beaufort Grocery (which is really a restaurant, not a store!) Yummmy!
The only time I've ever seen traffic is either when the Beaufort bridge is up for a boat making it's way through or when they are paving the highway for something. Otherwise, it's quite easy getting around.
Oh, about those hurricanes.....we have homes that have been here for 200+ years.....so how did they survive??
So far.....it's pretty good living....though housing costs are higher than they should be.

Tired of M.A.
My husband and I are also considering a move to North Carolina. We currently lived in North Central M.A. where the economy is very sluggish. We've heard that N.C. is very business friendly unlike M.A. where they are leaving to escape the high costs. (Especially Workers' Comp. Ins.)
We have been searching on-line for country/private settings not more than 20 to 30 mins. away from possible employment. Our son is 16 and has learning disabilities, so the school piece is extra important to us.
My husband is in the staffing industy and I am an assistant manager at a nationwide imports store. We have heard that the wages are about 10% less than here, but the cost of living is about 30% less.
I would be interested to hear what you find out.

Hi,
I'm a real estate agent in the Raleigh Triangle Area. A nice area to live that isn't as congested as Raleigh is Clayton. You also get more house for your money. Johnston County has an excellent school system as well as Wake County.
