That list is rediculous just like most other "best, safest, etc" lists. There are so many different areas and economic differences within the same states that list makes no sense. Do they just add up all crime committed upon juveniles and then devide by the number of people in the entire state? "Safest state for kids"...please!

Actually according to the link The 10 safest states for kids - Parenting & Family - MSNBC.com This is how they did it
Quote:
How we did it
From October 2007 to January 2008, Parents analyzed state-level data on more than 30 criteria that impact a child’s safety. The data was supplied by leading organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Safe Kids Worldwide.
But I do agree with you, I am not sure I agree with the study.

this list is like those "quizes" they have in magazines. they sound like they are made up just to get people talking and believing in this nonsense. NJ is #3--but do they even look at Newark, Camden, Trenton and other high crime areas? you cant judge a whole state this way.

ya..funny MD make it to top 10 when we have 300 murders last year..then again it's in the city mostly and mostly drugs and gang related. Outside of those ghetto areas, it's nice

I suspect that the safest state for Children of all ages (and the same holds true for a lot of adults) is Sleep.
