Thank you, yes I researched a bit but 6 -10 acres is a more then what I bargained for in that case.

Are you by any chance talking about Transplanting Traditions farm in Chapel Hill? It's run by and for Karen refugees from Myanmar/Burma.

Chapel Hill is one of the more expensive places to live in North Carolina. You can find cheaper places here, too, but they are harder to come by.

I’m interested in learning more about healing with medicinal herbs and Chinese medicine.

I would love to go on hikes and wildcrafting as well.
All of the Triangle has a great farm to table scene. I think it might be difficult to break into a business like you are describing because those niches are already filled here, but if you are willing to intern/work for low pay, I'm sure you could learn a lot.

If you're running a business growing things, whether for food or medical purposes, part of your overhead is the property tax. Farmers pay lower property taxes. There's a minimum number of acres & you must sell a certain dollar value of your crop(s). I don't know all of the details, but l know that much. That's why I asked if you knew about the farmettes. If you looked in Salem County, you might not be paying significantly more (or more, for that matter) for 6 acres than for 10 acres fairly near an Amtrak station in NC, & you'd be right across the Delaware River from Wilmington, DE, which has an Amtrak station.

If you feel an urge to come to NC, you will need 10 acres to get the farm rate.

Yes this is what I’m looking for in the next year. I know in NJ it’s the same deal.

Ok I see, thank you for that information I will keep that in mind.

Long story short .... I want to push my hobby into a small business. What small business I’m not sure yet? But I don’t need that income right now. I have my youngest who won’t be in school yet so I have time to think about this. Even if I do a year in NC, it’s a hell of a lot better then in NJ areas. I like Delaware but school system is horrible unless you apply out of district early on.

Public schools in NC are a lot different then NJ. NJ public schools some of the best in the nation.

The system is overly controlled at the State level. Local boards have little or no power except when they try to change boundaries.

Pay rates are around 47TH in the nation and teachers trying to make a living are moving around, best teachers going to greener pastures.

Main Amtrak line runs Charlotte to Raleigh and then north to Va. So look over the I-85 corridor. If lower taxes are wished for stay out of city limits and look into unincorporated townships.

Their are 501c3's running urban farming communities, you may want to check some of those out.
I know of one in Salisbury on South Fulton Street. It's near the Mean Mug coffee shop.
