Pinehurst is actually an option, and has good medical care and a small quaint downtown, and close to Southern Pines' small quaint downtown.

frankly, we don't have a lot of "preserved" little towns. Some have been rebuilt (aka gentrified for those who hate it).

Lewisville west of Winston-Salem is a quiet, quaint town with friendly people and easy access to hospitals. I'm hoping my newly retired parents will retire here soon. Good luck!

Valdese in Burke County. A lot of history, they have several events and festivals during the year, and great eateries! It is a walkable town as well. Burke County is home to two popular mountains: Table rock and Hawksbill and great fishing is all around the area. You should be able to connect with like-minded people there.

Default I would Like to help you.

Hi Diana. I have lived in Southern Pines for 9 years. I moved here from the Midwest. In the last few years I have researched areas all across North Carolina, into Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia. If you would like to send me a personal message, I am happy to try and help. It is a huge decision moving to a new place. If I can help at all, I would like to.

You could check into Cleveland County, Cherryville/Kings Mountain/Shelby area, or Gaston County, Mount Holly/Belmont. Some quaint areas, some rural areas, low housing prices, lots of older 1950's - 1970's homes, just an hour from Charlotte, about two hours down the mountain from Asheville. Lots of Seniors, Senior Centers.

Very hot and humidity in the summer though, but beautiful Autumn/Spring seasons, mild winters.

I was very impressed with Johnson City. Taxes less, and low crime (unlike Asheville NC)

hi diana, can you research share on nice retirement cities to live in NC or East TN, as i have been trying to get a place, but hate Asheville where my family lives. Too much crime and visitors.
