im sure all of you are aware of nj's corruptions. i was wondering if north carolina has any of what we go through. see attached link.. im looking to get out of nj and possibly move to nc. we will be looking in to the mountains or nearby. looking for good school. have a 10 year old so by the time we move she will be in middle school. i work in the mortgage industry but the way things are going that may be changing. im tired of paying high taxes and will only go higher.

One thing I've always appreciated about NC is our relatively clean politics. Not to say there haven't been a couple of bad apples over the years - most recently our Speaker of the House, Jim Black, convicted for taking kickbacks and now serving about 5 years in prison. Oh, and there was the local county commissionor who paid a street walker with a government check! But overall, we don't see the kinds of bad politics you are talking about.
Since you like the mountains (like me!) check out places like Hendersonville, Brevard or Asheville. Best of luck!
oh yea we've had alot of that going on here with the kickbacks. and of course you heard about spitzer. but thats in NY but close enough. thats what i dont understand why nj does not at least try to do what other states do. or at least take a lesson from the states. its just really bad here. i live in a 1930's house that is maybe 800 sf,im paying almost 5,000 taxes a year. by next year when they re do the assesments it will be almost 7,000. i cannot afford that. im bearly making the payments now. cannot wait to move to nc.

Here in Charlotte 800 square feet would cost you less than $1000 a year!
Yes but 800 square feet in uptown charlotte, or probably even uptown Raleigh might cost you that much.
It's all about location, not about the size. The same size apartment is going to cost you much more in taxes in NYC than it would in Buffalo, etc.
