Default Looking for friends

My mom is 80 years young and healthy. She is widowed and would love to meet other Germans in the Morganton/Hickory area. Can anyone give me any ideas. Older people usually don't have a computer and don't communicate this way. Thanks!

I thought we'd do it the bavarian way, lol

In the meantime we arrived in Asheville, settled down, like our new chapter in life a lot and I am still working on the stammtisch !

In Northern New England the summer can be very hot. They have all four seasons. I have checked it myself, and the summer temperature of New England can be greater than Asheville, due to its mountainous location. In western North Carolina, it is seasonable all year round, never getting too hot or too cold. In Northern New England expect more snow than Germany. Actually southern Germany such as Stuttgart can get almost exactly the same snowfall as Asheville, around 11 inches; whereas in Northern New England you can expect more, around 60+ inches. If you live near a large lake, you can perhaps expect more. I have talked to a man from Holland who lives in Maine, and he says Holland never ever gets as cold or as much snow as Maine, which averages more snow than most midwestern cities, but not as much snow as people living on the Great Lakes such as Erie Pennsylvania, which averages over 100 inches of snow each year.

Then there is this fact: the majority population of many new england cities is Irish and they sort of look down on German names. I have a German name and have received anti-German racism in Maine. The white people in Northern New England are French, British, and Irish mostly with some conflicts between English and French. Common surnames are French. Irish Catholicism is widespread. The French can be the not-cool French who are right wing conservatives similar to George Bush.

hey I came to Asheville 5 weeks ago to be an au pair. I'm from Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg and I would love to meet some other Germans. Stammtisch sounds great!
