Can anyone Lend some Assistance
Hello All:
My Wife and I live in Philadelphia, Pa. at the present time. She grew up here and she is finally beginning to agree with me that this place is the pits. I suppose NOTHING is the same now as it was 30 years ago… but be that as it may. I’m originally from South Jersey and living here in this “pit” is slowly killing me. But ‘nuf said about Philly. Our children will NOT be coming with us as they are on their own, have started careers here and wish to stay up here.
I’ve traveled to NC on business several times, albeit only to the RDU area. I know little about the rest of the state – except for the Outer Banks, and I do not want to live there. I wish I could afford it, but unfortunately I can’t. Is there anyone here who can direct me to some nice areas in NC where I can buy a nice home (bout 2000 sq ft) on a nice piece of property, in a good neighborhood, be near shopping, restaurants, medical facilities, outdoor activities (i.e.: golf, tennis, fishing, boating, bike trails etc), within proximity to a good sized airport (I still would need to travel on business occasionally and wouldn’t like to drive over 45min-1hr to get to one).
Of course I want to find a community that is friendly, full of pride and respect, a low crime area where people care about and look after their neighbors, and a place where old fashioned Southern Hospitality exists. Perhaps, this “Utopia” does not exist anymore … but I’m told that it does in NC.
I’d also like to hear about the weather in the various NC areas. How cold does it normally get in the winter, and how hot and humid does it get in the summer. I’ve been to Florida in the summer and find it the weather there to be oppressive, especially for outdoor activities.
My Wife and I are considered by our neighbors and friends to be genuine and down to earth “Nice People.” We are seeking a location to re-locate and live where people are nice, where the seasonal weather is not too cold, nor Florida hot. Where there are things to do, and where good medical facilities are convenient
If there are any Realtors with or without connections to builders reading this I’d also be interested in hearing from you as well.
Any help that anyone could provide would be MUCH APPRECIATED.

As far as North Carolina's climate(s), there's a big difference from one end of the state to the other. This is the best summary I've seen:
http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/climatenormals/clim60/states/Clim_NC_01.pdf
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)

Check out areas north of Greensboro...Summerfield, Oak Ridge or Reidsville. If you put these names in the search threads box you will come up with past posts about these areas from people who live there. I don't, but do know they are nice areas and sound just like what you are looking for. Best of luck to you!

You just discribed Concord (just outside of Charlotte). You can get that kind of house here (I have 2100/sf in a nice subdivision and could probably sell for $170,000), it's safe, LOTS of shopping/restaurants (Concord Mills is here like the Franklin Mills in Philly), awesome schools, tons of outdoor activities (and recreation in general) all around the Charlotte area (including Lake Norman/Lake Wylie/US National Whitewater Center), Charlotte's airport is one of the nation's largest and Concord's is the states 4th largest, and a very strong economy. Just pm me if you want more details. Good luck!
