Recieved a speeding ticket in Rowan Co. and am looking for a good lawyer/advice.
I was driving on I85 in Rowan county/Salisbury and got pulled over for speeding. It was right after where the speed limit changes from 70 to 65 and I didn't realize it had changed so I didn't slow down any. I thought I was doing about 78, but the officer said I was doing 83. So instead of the 8 miles over I thought I was going, I got ticketed for 18 over. The officer said I could go to court myself and they would definitely drop it a few to get me under the 15 mph reckless driving since this is my first ticket. I think I want to get a lawyer to help me though. Anyone have any suggestions for a good traffic ticket lawyer in that area? I'd really appreciate any help.

If that is your first ticket, DON'T get a lawyer. You will be throwing your money away. If you show up in court, plead guilty.....the judge will reduce it with no points against you. This is the same outcome if you get a lawyer. Only difference is you would not have to show up in court.
You will have to pay court costs. But it is much less than a lawyer.

If you thought you were doing "about 78" then you sure knew you were speeding...so i suggest you just throw yourself at the mercy of the court. NC is starting to crack down on speeders and i doubt that a hot shot lawyer can do much for you. Just pay the fine and learn a lesson....that speed kills!

If you have an otherwise clean driving record (I'd have a copy in hand), you can sometimes go straight to the DA's office and ask them to either drop the charges, or plead them down to a lesser offense.

Just ran across this post. The lawyer who handles all the tickets for Rowan or Cabarrus county is Todd Williford in Kannapolis. He will make it disappear. His # is 704-932-4144.
