Possible relocation in a few years, seeking advice on Johnston County. Most likely will be bringing with us college aged kids. I'm thinking about purchasing acreage to build a home and settle. Visited Johnson County several years ago and liked the fact it's outside Raleigh, but within a decent driving distance to keep it convenient for entertainment and work. Any advice on specific communities within the county? Thanks.

How do I answer this question without offending anyone...

There is a ton of closet racism from whites in Johnston; there is a large lack of self-awareness from blacks in Johnston; the Latinos seem normal to the extent they don't fit in any of the attitudes I just mentioned, as a group...

Johnston's culture is not something I'd be racing to be a part of...

I'm not sure what you mean. Just put the same post you did here on that forum. Its geographically specific to the Triangle area, which JoCo is part of.

Clayton is being developed so much that I doubt there will be lots with "acreage" by the time you want to relocate. Smithfield and Selma are probably also in the line of development.

So, I'd say it depends on how much acreage you want and how close to development you want be. Check some of the "land and farm" websites for ideas on prices.

You could say that.

Though NCDOT might not be too thrilled about it...

I wasn't sure if there was a process to move the entire thread, or copy/paste of my initial post. If that's the case, that's what I'll do. Thanks.

Doing that now. I'd like to buy in now while acreage is available and lock in today's prices. We'll build later when the time arrives to relocate.
