I was with Farm Bureau several years ago in NC, then moved to GMAC and kept that when I moved to SC.

My insurance is more expensive in SC and the customer phone agents told me that one factor in determining rates is the number of uninsured/underinsured drivers in the state where you live. So far as I can remember, SC has more than NC and as such the whole pool of insurance premiums can trend higher.

Food for thought.

It looks like my car insurance will only be a little bit cheaper, probably enough to offset the registration tax.

I expected income to be much less, but I have recruiters throwing some pleasant salary figures at me.

I am an auto appraiser with a big insurance company in NC.The local adjusters can make a big difference.I would stay away from some of the heavily advertised companies.GMAC,Farm Bureau,State Farm,Erie are probably going to be some of the better bets, but may not be the cheapest.

Do a search and see who has been rated #1 with the body shops in NC for the last few years and you'll be going in the right direction.I have worked in bodys shops and for insurance companies and have seen both sides of the fence.

Lemur, I also expected to take a hit on wages. Tech job wages here have plummeted. I checked with some agencies that have offices in Charlotte & I was told no problem getting work & the wages were slightly better.

Can you tell me what USAA stands for? My nephew just came out of the military, does that count? thanks

NC legislature is also looking at allowing insurance companies to set their own rates, with an anticipated rate hike of 20% for drivers.
